Effectiveness of Spontaneous Learning to the Reading Skills of Grade VI Manobo Pupils of Palimbang District III
Edmilyn Habel-Gutierrez
Spontaneous learning has a great impact in the lives of Manobo learners. This intervention encourages them to participate and engage in meaningful activities to learn and improve their reading skills. The respondents were thirty-eight (38) Manobo pupils. These Grade VI Manobo pupils were randomly assigned into Group 1 (with spontaneous learning intervention) and Group 2 (without spontaneous learning intervention). An initial test was given at the start of instruction to determine the reading skills of Grade VI Manobo learners. The other three (3) tests were given every after the instruction. Moreover, focus group discussion (FGD) was conducted to the different stakeholders of the schools. The said FGD was used to further determine the effect of spontaneous learning among Manobo pupils. This study employed experimental research design particularly the Comparison Research with multiple series design where purposive random sampling was used. Result shows that at the start, Manobo pupils have poor reading skills. There’s a significant improvement in the reading skills of Grade VI Manobo pupils of Palimbang District III who underwent spontaneous learning intervention. Therefore, the use of the said intervention improves the reading Skills of Manobo learners. It is recommended that spontaneous learning should be used as an intervention in the teaching-learning process.
